Recently, the 220 square-meter sintering machine in the sintering plant of CICC of Liuzhou Steel Group began its production of converting ordinary ore to nickel ore. After 4 hours of sintering and screening, the first cart of ferronickel sinter was successfully transformed. The transformed sintering system can meet the production of ordinary sinter and stainless-steel laterite nickel ore and achieve the production of both ordinary sinter and ferronickel products by one machine, which is the first case in China.

It is learned that Liuzhou Steel Group has no experience in producing ferronickel sinter by large sintering machine before, and the requirements for raw material preparation, production organization coordination and logistics transportation coordination in the conversion process are very strict, which impose great challenge for the newly established production line to convert from low ferrous and high alkalinity produced by ordinary ore to high ferrous and low alkalinity produced by nickel ore. After the adjustment, optimization and careful commissioning of each process, the production of ferronickel sinter turned out to be a great success. After testing, the barrate strength of ordinary sinter is proved to be greater than 80%, and that of ferronickel sinter is greater than 69%. All technical indexes meet the quality requirements of blast furnace.
