Recently, we learned that Baipeng Town in Liujiang District has started the spring planting of lotus roots comprehensively this year and the field transplanting of lotus roots is predicted to be completed in early March.

The lotus roots produced in Liujiang District are big, white, smooth, juicy and crisp and sweet because of the natural conditions such as rich water system, high water quality and deep soil. The title of “jade lotus root” has been known all over the country and it is also the logo product of national geography. The relevant products of lotus root are sold all over the country while it enriches the table of local people. It is also exported to Japan, America, Canada and the Southeast Asian nations and becomes the agricultural products with biggest export volume in Liujiang District. It was understood that Baipeng Town has already became the demonstration town of Liujiang District developing “jade lotus root” through modern agriculture. They took the planting base of lotus root in the “moonlight of lotus pond” modern agricultural demonstration park in Huaihong Village as lead to drive more than 4,700 agricultural households in the 5 villages in the town to plant the lotus root and form the planting scale of lotus root of ten thousand mu. The planting area of double season lotus reached 32,000 mu with the output per mu of 1,800 kg in a single season. It is the biggest production base of double season lotus roots in Guangxi and is honored as “the region famous for jade lotus root in China”.
